Bishop Mtambo donates K1 million to Mzuzu City Council

Bishop Silent Mtambo of Evangelical Assemblies of God Mission in Malawi on Sunday donated K1 million to Mzuzu City Council towards the council’s waste management initiatives.

According to Mtambo, the donation is one way of contributing to the development of Mzuzu City.

“As a patriotic citizen, I decided to take part in making Mzuzu City a better place. I thank my wife for encouraging me to make such a donation,” he said.

In his words, Mzuzu City Council Spokesperson, McDonald Gondwe, applauded Mtambo for the timely gesture and called on others to emulate the same.

“This is a very important gesture. The money will go towards different initiatives including the fundraising campaign for the purchase of refuse vehicles and other equipment,” Gondwe said.

“However, there is still need for more support. Other stakeholders are encouraged to come and help the council,” he added.

Currently, Mzuzu City Council does not have a refuse truck, hence relies on a lorry and a small vehicle to haul waste.

The council has therefore organized a fundraising dinner on 1st October, 2022 in Mzuzu, to raise funds for the acquisition of refuse vehicles and other equipment.
