A Kabaza operator killed in a hit and run in Salima

A 48-year-old Kabaza operator has been killed in Salima in a hit and run road accident which occurred along Salima-Balaka M5 road on Sunday.

According to Salima Police Public Relation Officer Jacob Khembo, the deceased was pedaling his Kabaza bicycle heading to Kamuzu road and upon arrival at Mlambe trading Centre, unknown vehicle which was driven by unknown driver hit him and it never stopped.

Khembo said the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at Salima District Hospital.

“The deceased sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Salima District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival and postmortem results conducted at the hospital showed that death was due to head injuries,” said Khembo.

The deceased has been identified as Kossam Liwonde aged from Msusa village in the area of Traditional Authority Salima in Salima district.

Salima being one of the districts in Malawi with a lot of Kabaza bicycle operators, police in the district have meanwhile warned all motorists who fail to exercise humanity in helping the victims and if caught will face the law as one way of reducing hit and run incidents which are becoming common.
