AIP still faces problems, nine people defrauded
Police in Mchinji have arrested one person for allegedly defrauding nine (9) people at Matutu ADMARC Depot in the district on January 11, 2022.
According to a police report, 26-year-old Felix Tchauya from Zizwa Village of Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji District collected 19 1 identification cards and cash amounting to K35, 300 from nine victims meant for buying AIP fertilizer.
Mchinji Police Station Officer, Charles Mpezeni, said on January 11 at around 11:00 hours, the victims were at Matutu ADMARC Depot where they went to buy subsidised fertilizer using 1 identity cards (IDs).
"On the queue, they were approached by the suspect who asked them to buy fertilizer on their behalf, alleging that the supervisor at the said depot was his relation,” stated Mpezeni.
He further explained that suspect collected the IDs and cash from them, but disappeared till March 1, 2022 when he was seen at Waliranji Trading Centre by one of the victims who immediately reported at Namizana Police Border which led to the suspect’s arrest.
So far, 15 1 IDs were recovered pending scanning to find out if the fertilizer has been redeemed or not. Investigations are still in progress to recover the remaining 1 IDs and cash.
