Alumni donate 100 classroom desks to Chilumba Secondary School
Chilumba Secondary School Alumni in Karonga District have asked all former students of the school to join hands in improving the welfare of the school for improved academic performance.
The school’s alumni made the call on Tuesday when they presented a donation of 100 desks wealth of about K3 million to Chilumba Secondary School in the district.
Chairperson for the alumni, Jab Van Kondowe, said the donation was made to contribute towards the improvement of teaching and learning conditions at the institution.
"We discussed some of the problems affecting our former school, hence the decision to donate these desks which are very crucial in teaching and learning," Kondowe said.
He further made a call to every alumnus who has not yet joined the grouping to do so as a way of strengthening the alumni.
The school’s headteacher, Reuben Singogo, said the school’s management and learners were grateful for the donation.
"We don't underrate what the alumni have done for us. For long, the school has had challenges of such type of lack of desks," Singogo said.
He then asked the grouping to continue helping the institution and advised current students at the school to embrace the gesture set by the alumni when they leave the institution.
On her part, Desk Officer for secondary schools in Northern Education Division, Grace Gulula, said the division was thankful for the donation.
“This is a government school, and we commend you for complementing government efforts in promoting education at the school,” said Gulula.
