Ballot papers for June 29 by-elections arrive at Nsanje Lalanje

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has today started distributing ballot papers to all the centres across Lalanje ward under Nsanje Lalanje constituency.

In an interview, the ward's Returning Officer for Lalanje ward Enock Kamphiripiri said the ballot papers arrived on Saturday 26th June,2021.

Kamphiripiri said everything was intact and ready for inspection on Monday 28th June,2021.

"Distribution to the centers will be done this morning and the responsible officers will receive them," said Kamphiripiri

Campaign for the by-elections slated for 29 June 2021 ended on Saturday.

So far, the campaigns have been described as peaceful.Meanwhile, the electoral body has conducted trainings for the polling personnel from Friday to Saturday at Bangula Primary School in preparation for the by-elections.

Lalanje ward in Nsanje district has thirteen polling centres.

MEC will on June 29, 2021 hold by-elections in Nsanje Lalanje Ward and Blantyre Chikwembere ward following demise of the councilors, and Nkhata Bay Central Constituency following Supreme Court of Appeal's decision to nullify 2019 parliamentary election results.
