Ballot papers for the June 29 by-elections have arrived in the country through the Kamuzu International airport in Lilongwe.
The elections comprise a Parliamentary poll in Nkhata Bay Central Constituency and a local Government election in Nsanje-Lalanje Ward in Nsanje and Chikwembere Ward in Blantyre North.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) officials and party representatives have witnessed the arrival of the ballot papers amid tight security.
The election in Nkhata Bay comes following the nullification of 2019 results where Symon Vuwa Kaunda of the former ruling DPP emerged as the winner. Raphael Mhone of the People’s Party challenged the result. In Chikwembere and Lalanje wards, elections will be held following the death of Councilors for the areas.
According to MEC, the campaign period will end on Sunday, June 27
