Businessman wins Toyota pick-up in ‘Iponyereniso Kwakuya ndi Illovo’ Competition
It was a joyous day on Monday for a Karonga-based business operator, Curtberth Mwamulima, for winning a K13 million Toyota NP 200 in the ‘Iponyereniso Kwakuya ndi Illovo’ Competition.
Illovo Sugar Malawi introduced the competition which commenced on November 26, 2021, and ended on February 26, 2022, to promote the consumption of sugar produced by the company.
In his remarks, Mwamulima expressed excitement for winning the vehicle, saying he never dreamt of emerging one of the winners in the competition because he was purchasing the product according to his customers’ demand.
“I am very happy and speechless because there are a lot of people that purchase sugar from Simama General Dealers, but I am the lucky one for winning the biggest prize. I only attribute this to God,” Mwamulima said.
He then advised his fellow business operators to work extra hard in promoting their businesses.
“I encourage my fellow business operators to put much effort in their businesses so that they can emerge winners next time,” Mwamulima said.
However, Illovo Sugar Malawi Managing Director, Lekani Katandula, expressed concern over the tendency of some business operators who sell sugar at a higher and unrecommended price to make more profits.
“We do not condone this malpractice as it does a lot of damage to our consumers and we advise such business operators to stop the vice forthwith,” said Katandula.
Sales Representative of Simama General Dealers, Nerwa Mwenelupembe said he was pleased that one of their customers emerged a winner of the competition.
” I do not take it for granted. We have a large customer base here in Karonga and we are excited that one of the grand prizes has come here,” said Mwenelupembe.
This was the fifth among the six cars to be awarded to the winning customer. Other prizes in the competition include a motorcycle, bicycles, bags of fertilizer, fridge, cooker, and t-shirts.
