Chilima to lead in Lucius Banda’s fundraising activity
Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima is tomorrow leading a team of over 20 cyclists from the Lilongwe Cycling Crew to cycle from Area 18 interchange to Bingu 1 Stadium where an aerobics session will be held in aid of legendary musician Soldier Lucius Banda.
The ceremonial ride which will start from 5:45 in the morning will see participants contributing a minimum of Three thousand Kwacha towards the cause.
“We can not talk about arts without talking about the Banda brothers and we felt that it is also our responsibility to save them because they are Malawi’s treasure.” Said one of the cyclists.
The Chilima fundraiser complements efforts from a number of artists such as Fredokiss and Lulu to support country’s music legends Paul and Lucius Banda who need to seek medical attention from abroad.
While Fredokiss recently led youth from UTM, where Chilima and Banda seat as President and Campaign Director respectively, Artist Lulu is leading Zembani Band and other musicians in the same initiative.
Last month, Banda opened up about his health condition in an interview with ZBS, saying he has been battling kidney failure.
“It has been a tough period for me and my family in general. I started experiencing strange symptoms such as fatique, excessive weight gain and my skin was becoming pale. That’s when I decided to go for a thorough check up,” said Banda.
During the interview, Banda, who is also Presidential advisor on Arts and Youth, also talked about the illnesses of his two brothers, Francis who has cancer and legendary musician Paul who also has kidney challenges.
