Police in Mangochi are keeping in custody Chiradzulu East Constituency Member of Parliament Joseph Namale for hitting a 3-yeard-old girl to death at Lwangwa Primary School in Mangochi.
Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi told Nthanda Times that the girl met her fate on April 4 2022 morning when she was crossing the road.
Tepani said the deceased has been identified as Nisha Master from Masanga Village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi District.
According to Daudi, the accident involved a Mercedes Benz registration number BW7914 was being driven by Mr. Nomale, 54 from the direction of Mangochi heading towards Monkey Bay.
"Upon arrival at Lwangwa Primary School due to over speeding, Nomale lost control of the motor vehicle and hit the minor who was crossing from right to left side of the road where Nisha sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures and was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where death was pronounced upon arrival," she said.
Nomale is currently in Police custody waiting for court proceedings as Police in the district are appealing to all road users to follow road safety measures to avoid such accidents.
Meanwhile, Police have advised parents and guardians not to allow their tender-aged children to cross the roads without being accompanied or supervised.
