Mzuzu Welfare Group, a non-governmental organization (NGO) has asked Malawians to stop discrimination saying it retards development in the country.
The remarks were made on 13th of November, 2021 during the launch of the organization in Mzuzu.
According to the organization’s director, Alexander Lungu, many developments are hold back because Malawians do not love each other.
“People form different groups based on education, race, health status, financial status, and others. These make implentation of some developments hard because they divide us,” Lungu said.
Lungu said Mzuzu Welfare Group has been launched to promote unity by teaching people how to live together peacefully both in hard and good times.
“We know that unity is a key to development that is why we tell people to avoid discrimination,” he said.
On the hand, General Treasure for the organization, Benson Ngwenya, revealed that the organization will soon start offering loans to needy students for them to continue their studies.
“As one way of developing our country, we believe that if children are well educated, they know bad effects of discrimination and goodness of development. This is why we are planning to start giving them loans,” Ngwenya said.
Meanwhile, Women’s Desk Chairperson for the organization, Mary Muywanga has called for women involvement in the organization which also offers enterpreneurship skills to women.
“We want women to be independent, that is why we are asking them to join Mzuzu Welfare Group to have access to loans and learn many business skills,” Muywanga said.
The organization started on 27th September, 2020, and has 100 members of which only 13 are women.
