Dr. Malewezi burial on Saturday

Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has announced that the country’s first Vice President in a multiparty system Late Dr Justin Malewezi will be laid to rest Saturday, April 24. Through a statement, OPC State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has directed that late Dr. Malewezi be honoured with a State funeral. The statement indicates that body of late Dr. Malewezi will be taken from Goodwill Funeral Parlour Friday afternoon to his residence at Likuni in Lilongwe for vigils.  “The body of Dr Malewezi, who died in Lilongwe on Saturday, April 17, 2021, will today be taken from Goodwill Funeral Parlour to his residence in Likuni for a vigil,” reads the statement.  According to the statement, funeral service of Dr. Malewezi will be held at Likuni Boys Secondary School from 8:00am on Saturday followed by burial at a selected private family ground in the afternoon. Dr Malewezi will be held at Likuni Boys Secondary School ground on Saturday 24th of April, 2021 from 08:00 am followed by burial in Likuni,” reads the statement in part. According to a funeral program which Nthanda Times has seen, King of Chewa, Kalonga Gawa Undi will attend the burial ceremony of the fallen first Vice President. Dr. Malewezi held several senior positions in the Chewa Heritage Foundation. Dr. Malewezi died on 17 April 2021 in Lilongwe at the age of 77. Information has it that Dr. Malewezi died at a time when he was expected to fly to South Africa for further medical attention. State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi described Dr. Malewezi as hardworking and a true Civil Servant.
