Deputy Minister of education, Madalitso Kambauwa has urged students who have been awarded scholarships to study in Egypt at Al Azhar Islamic University under the Egyptian Government Undergraduate Scholarship Program to remain focused during their studies in Egypt if they have to excel and succeed in their education.
She made the remarks on Monday during presentation of the scholarships to 19 students which was held at Egyptian Ambassador’s residence in Lilongwe, Area 10.
Kambauwa said that, Egypt is the big country where various activities take place hence there is need for the student to remained focused by concentrating to their studies in order for them to do well in their education.
“Egypt is different from Malawi in terms of culture and it is also a big country where various activities are curried out, so with that kind of set up there is need for the students to remain focused during their studies in order for them to do well and complete their education,” Kambauwa said.
The deputy minister also tipped the students to remain open minded in Egypt in a bid for them to easily learn what they will be offered at the university.
She therefore hailed the Egyptian Government for its gesture saying that it will help the students to become responsible citizens of the country once they have completed their studies.
“As the Ministry, we are pleased with what Egyptian Government has done for awarding scholarships to our students.
“The scholarship will help the students to be exposed in different way in as far as education is concerned and we are hoping that these students would become responsible citizens of our country after completing their education,” she said.
In his remarks Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi, Hassan Shawky said that the Egyptian Government is committed to help the government in building capacity among the youth in the country.
“The Egyptian Government is devoted to support the Government of Malawi in building capacity among Malawian youth in various areas including; agriculture, business development and medicine at the end we want these youth should contribute in the national development plan of Malawi,” Shawky said.
At Al Azhar Islamic University, the scholarship awardees will study in the fields of; Islamic Studies, Agriculture, Commerce, Science, Languages, Arabic Language, Law, Anthropology, Medicine and Engineering.
In his comment, one of the scholarship awardees who will study Medicine and Islamic Theology at the university, Hussein Kochelani expressed his gratitude saying that for a longtime he has been hoping for an opportunity to study abroad.
“I am very excited and it is the great pleasure to me to have this opportunity, I have been hoping for this opportunity for a longtime and with this scholarship opportunity I am looking forward to achieve what I have been dreaming,” he said.
