Extension workers drilled in CSPWP

Likoma District Council has embarked on a capacity building initiative for its extension workers for them to be well versed with implementation modalities of Climate Smart Public Works Programme (CSPWP) in the district.

Speaking Monday in Nkhata Bay when he opened a three-day orientation on CSPWP for extension workers, Acting Director of Planning and Development (DPD) for Likoma, Stephen Munthali said the orientation was vital for smooth implementation of the programme.

The extension workers will among other things be oriented on the programme’s beneficiary identification through the use of Unified Beneficiaries Register (UBR) targeting the ultra- poor households which are labour constraint," said Munthali.

He said once the project is rolled out, the extension workers are expected to strengthen households’ resilience to shocks resulting from climate change and create durable community assets.

Munthali then advised the extension workers to be accountable and transparent when discharging their duties for the programme.

One of the CSPWP officials, Dickson Chonongela said he expects active participation and coordination amongst all players in implementing activities under the programme.

"I hope the trainees will use the information which they have gained for the benefit of the district, especially the beneficiaries,” said Chonongela.

Implementation of activities under the programme is expected to commence in September, 2022 with a target of about 435, 000 households country wide.
