Father slaughters biological son, police launch manhunt

Lingadzi Police in Lilongwe have launched a man-hunt for a man who is suspected to have viciously murdered his own biological son by chopping off his head and throwing him in Chimbalame River in Mtandire in the district.

The deceased was identified as Calvin Issah who was residing in Mtandire where the incident occurred.

According to Lingadzi Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Salomy Zgambo, the murder suspect suffered from a mental disorder in August, 2021.

She said there were reports that the man was taken to Dedza District Hospital where he was receiving treatment, but escaped from the hospital to the unknown destination.

However, on March 11, 2022 at around 1 o’clock a.m. the man suddenly appeared at his wife’s house in Mtandire where he found the family sleeping.

Zgambo: we are looking for the father

Zgambo further explained that the suspect is said to have taken the child (now deceased) and started running away. Family members followed him but failed to locate him.

She said on March 12, the family continued with the search until around 17:00 p.m. when they found the head of the child which was stuck in the river.

It is believed that the suspect beheaded his son and threw the head in Chimbalame River while the remaining body was not found.

Sub Inspector Zgambo told Malawi News Agency (MANA) the body was discovered later in the evening, just few metres from Spearhead Bridge in the same river (Chimbalame) with both arms and legs cut off.

“We launched a man-hunt and investigations are still underway to recover the remaining body parts and arrest the suspect,” explained Zgambo.
