Financial constraints hit national beach soccer team

The beach soccer association has admitted that financial constraints are to affect the Malawi national beach soccer team preparations ahead of African cup as the team has started camping ahead of the continental showpiece scheduled between October 21-28 in Vilankulo, Mozambique

The team is regrouped at matundi cottage in Salima on Sunday afternoon and training started on Monday at Livingstonia beach.

According to the associations chairperson Gift Chimbalanga the team will participate in AFCON without playing any international friendly due to financial challenges. Chimbalanga said despite financial constraints there slim chances for the team to play a friendly with a team from other group when they travel to Mozambique.

“This won’t affect the team’s performance at international level; we have youngsters who are ready to fight by any means necessary, carrying and representing Malawi so well in Mozambique, so this doesn’t affect us very much, “said Kabango.

Commenting on the development, Head coach for national beach soccer team wily Kumilambe has named a 25 member squad for camping and says all the boys who have reported for duties are responding positively to the training sessions.

“After the Tanzania match, we have been moving around the beach soccer centers to search for players so that we beef-up the squad that played against Tanzania, ‘said Kumilambe.

Malawi is in group A, alongside Mozambique, Nigeria and morocco.
