Kasungu, August 8, Mana: Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Madalitso Kazombo has hailed the role media play in information dissemination in the country for the mutual contribution towards national development agenda.
He made the remarks on Saturday when he visited newly established regional broadcaster, Mtunthama Broadcasting Station which is situated in Kasungu district.
“We cannot talk about the development of any nation without talking about the role media houses play. These institutions bridge the public officers and the citizens so that views and information from both sides are heard,” Kazombo said.
He commended the institution for its quality programs lined up saying would benefit people within and outside its reach.
Managing Director for Mtunthama Broadcasting Station, Killion Shawa expressed gratitude for the visit and made a plea to the government to support local stations in their day-to-day operations.
“I am very humbled that the deputy speaker of parliament himself spared time to see us here. I would however, like government to work with us in information dissemination to the masses as we have started this to help complement its policies,” he said.
Mtunthama Broadcasting Station becomes a second radio station to broadcast from Kasungu district after Kasungu Community Radio hit the airwaves last year.
