Police in Kawale are keeping in custody nine men for robberywho have been behind a series of robbery cases in Kawale Township in Lilongwe. The nine (9) suspects are between the age range of 17 to 31 and were led by Mussah Phiri, 31, nicknamed "Heavy." According to Kawale Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Mabvuto Phiri, the law enfoncers launched a manhunt following complaints about the robbery. Sergeant Phiri said a victim of the robbery gave a clue which help to the arrest of Mussah Phiri. “Following complaints lodged at Kawale Police, detectives launched a manhunt and through information gathered the team managed to arrest Mussah Phiri on April 3 2021.One of the victims recognized the suspect during the attack which gave a clue to the breakthrough,” said Sergeant Phiri. Sergeant Phiri : Mussah led eight other robbers Sergeant Phiri further said Mussah revealed that he committed the offense alongside eight other people. “It all started with the arrest of Mussah Phiri. When quizzed, Mussah exposed his friends and led the detectives to arrest the eight others. It is reported that the suspects ambushed and attacked the complainant as he was going home in Kawale 1. During interrogation Mussah admitted to have committed the crime and it has been discovered that the nine were behind the various robbery cases that have been reported in the area,” said Sergeant Phiri. Mussah Phiri who is also answering to two similar charges is in Police custody and will appear before court to answer robbery charges Mussah hails from Kwetumbe , Traditional Authority Chamba in Machinga District.
