Likoma District Council commended for successful project implementation

Financial Management Specialist for Investing in Early Years Project (IYP) Chisomo Nayeja has commended Likoma District Council for ensuring that the project meet is objectives.

Speaking Tuesday after touring some of the project’s activities in the district, Nayeja said she was impressed to note women’s participation in various activities including goat, chicken rearing and raising fruit tree seedlings hence sustaining their living.

 “We came here to appreciate the impact of the project on people’s lives.  We have been funding, this project through the district council and out intention if the invested money is bearing fruits,” said Nayeja.

She said she was satisfied with the progress of the activities citing among others free trees planting, rearing of goats and chickens,

“This is an indication that the money is being used for the intended purpose,”

Nayeja then advised the beneficiaries of the project to continue working hard for the sustainability of the project when it phases out.

 “This has to go on even when the project comes to an end in three years to come,” she said.

An official the district commissioner’s office, Felix Banda pledged that the council will always be committed for the success and sustainability of the project.

“We have so far we have through the project distributed about 1300 chickens and 300 goats to various households,” said Banda.

One of the beneficiaries, Beatrice Kamanga who was provided with four chickens, said the chicken have multiplied as such she can ably fend for her family.

 “I am very pleased with the project and all of them are laying eggs which I use for feeding my family besides selling some of them. I use the money buying house necessities such as clothes and food supplements,” said Kamanga.

Group Village Head  Nkhwemba commended IYP for the initiative saying it will go a long way in improving people’s livelihood in the area.

The project which is funded by World Bank aims at uplifting lives of women in the District.
