Man arrested for offering a boy on sale

Police in Thyolo are keeping in custody Madalitso Wyson, 22, for allegedly offering an 11-year-old boy for sale.

Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Amos Tione said on February 18, 2022, the suspect went to Chingadzi Primary School within the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Khwethemule with the Standard 2 learner at the school.

“The young boy is a cousin to the suspect. Later, the suspect took the boy to his girlfriend’s village without the knowledge of the boy’s parents. They spent a night there and the following day the suspect took the boy to one of the traditional doctors within Mtambanyama Trading Centre for sale,” said Tione.

Tione said upon hearing this, the traditional doctor informed the community who later reported the matter to police leading to the arrest of the suspect.

“He will be taken to court to answer a charge of trafficking in child contrary to Section 15 of Trafficking in Persons Act,” Tione said.

Wyson comes from Chaoneka Village in T/A Khwethemule in Thyolo district.
