The Principal Resident Magistrate’s court in Lilongwe, on April 12 ,2021 ordered 31-year-old Mussah Phiri nicknamed “Heavy” to spend the next four years in jail for robbery. The incident occurred on February 11,2021 in Kawale 1. According to state prosecutor Sub Inspector Humphreys Makhaliha,on the night of February 11,2021 Mussah robbed a certain man, who immediately recognized him and alerted Kawale Police. He was later apprehended and charged with robbery. Appearing in court ,he pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him. In his submission, Sub Inspector Makhaliha prayed for a stiffer sentence saying cases of this nature are on the increase hence the need to slap him with stiffer punishment to deter other would -be- offenders. In mitigation, Mussah pleaded with the court for leniency saying he is a bread winner in his family. Passing his judgement Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba concurred with the state. He therefore sentenced Mussah to four years imprisonment with hard labour. The convict hails from Kwitumbi village in the area of Traditional Authority Chamba in Machinga. Sharing is Caring!
