Man jailed 6 years IHL for burglary, theft in Dowa

The Dowa First Grade Magistrate's Court has convicted and sentenced a 28-year-old man to six years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.

The court through state prosecutor Inspector Christopher Daluni heard that the convict, Patrick Maloni, during the night of June 25 2021 at Chidothi Village in the district of Dowa entered the house of Minala Chipezayani and stole one subfer and one speaker, all valued at K85, 000.00, belonging to Minala Chipezayani.

Appearing before court, the convict pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and theft contrary to Sections 309 and 278 of the Penal Code respectively.

Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate Amran Phiri concurred with the state's submission and sentenced the convict to 6 years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and 10 months IHL for theft.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Patrick Maloni comes from Zizwa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa District.
