MBS seals Agrocom for tampering with expiry date of products

The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has sealed AgroCom Limited offices at Kanengo in Lilongwe on suspicion of changing dates on packaging for biscuits due for expiry in September this year.

MBS Senior Certification Officer Raphael Kesten Mpingo says the step follows a tip-off from well-wishers, adding the Bureau will take further action.

Meanwhile, Managing Director for the company Zameer Suleiman, has disclosed the company was changing dates only for cartons that were wet, a development he said had compromised the visibility of expiry dates.

“They have observed we have not changed all the cartons, this is a clear indication that we just wanted to change for those that were wet,” he said.

According to MBS, the company has tampered with about 4000 cartons of its products
