MDF soldier dies of illness at peacekeeping
The Malawi Defense Force (MDF) has announced death of one of its officers Corporal Maxwell Nyirenda who has died after a short illness.
In a press statement, MDF acting Public Relations Officer Major Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba said Corporal Nyirenda who was in the peacekeeping squad in the Democratic Republic of Congo passed on yesterday at Inter1 Hospital Kampala (IHK) in Kampala, Uganda.
“The late Corporal Maxwell Nyirenda, aged 42, passed on after a short illness at Inter1 Hospital Kampala (IHK) in Kampala, Uganda on Saturday 5 June, 2021 where he was receiving medical treatment after being referred to from Goma in DRC by the United Nations (UN),” reads the statement.
MDF has described death of Corporal Nyirenda as a big loss. According to the statement, family of late Corporal Nyirenda has already been informed accordingly.

“Malawi Defense Force has lost a fine young man who was courageous, hardworking, and disciplined. We greatly mourn his death and his family has been informed accordingly. We express our deep and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family for this greatest tragedy and pray that God give them strength and courage to bear this enormous loss,” reads the statement.
Late Corporal Nyirenda was based at Parachute Batallion in Salima.
Corporal Nyirenda hailed from Chisovya Village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi and is survived by a wife and five children.
The body of late Corporal Nyirenda will arrive in the country upon completion of UN procedures.
