M'mbelwa council trains its security personnel
Mzimba, September 5, Mana: Mzimba Police has been equipped staff of the Mbelwa District Council with basic knowledge on security matters.
In an interview, M’mbelwa District Council Director of Administration (DOA), Steve Chima said the training came against a backdrop of several break-ins in the district which did not spare the council.
He said, “Of late, we have experienced a spate of break-ins in Mzimba and our offices were also robbed. It’s possible that during this time our guards were either away or sleeping.”
“This is why we want them to be equipped with basic knowledge on security matters because even though we recruited them, they still lack skills to effectively discharge their duties,” Chima said.
The DOA explained that the training would go a long way in motivating the guards that they matter and are appreciated for their work.
Mzimba Police Officer In- charge, Stain Chaima said the training would strengthen the partnership between the police and the security guards.
“Among other things, we have trained these security guards to work hand in hand with the Police because most of them do not know that they have to work with the police as partners,” he said.
Head of messengers at the council, Cosmos Ndolo said they have acquired relevant skills that would assist them in crime prevention.
Last year, thieves broke into MDC offices and walked away with K2 million and two laptops.
