MPS embarks on 'Operation Vala Mask' to enforce Covid-19 rules and regulations

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) says it will from Monday 19, 2021 seriously enforce all Covid-19 Rules and Regulations as stipulated in the Public Health Act (Corona Virus and Covid-19 Prevention, Containment and Management)

In a statement signed, 1 Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera says it has established the code-operation called "Operation Vala Mask" which aims at ensuring adherence and compliance to all the rules and the regulations that are in place to curb further spread of COVID-19 in all communities.

Kadadzera said notable rules and regulations include wearing of face masks in public places, closing of bars and bottle stores by 10pm, seating capacity of 50 percent in public transport, and a curfew starting from 10 pm to 6 am.

He said the MPS, therefore, warns all those defying Covid-19 Rules and Regulations of arrest and subsequent prosecution.

"Importantly, the MPS assures Malawians of professionalism during the enforcement of the preventive measures and that people's rights will be duly respected," he stated

As of July 18th, 2021, Malawi had recorded 43,470 Covid-19 cumulative confirmed cases, 6,978 active cases, with 1,338 deaths.
