MRA aims to exceed revenue target
The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) will from August 2021 start managing tax affairs of individuals but also Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through Block Management System.
Commissioner General for the tax collecting body John Biziwick disclosed this in Mangochi during the closing ceremony of a two-day media orientation workshop on new tax measures.
Biziwick said MRA intends to broaden its revenue base through many initiatives, including the Block Management System.
"MRA will demarcate an area, such as Blantyre CBD, into sizeable and manageable blocks. We will assign officers in these blocks to assist and ensure that everyone within that block is tax compliant,’’ said Bizwick.
The tax revenue target for the 2021/2022 fiscal year is MK1.033 trillion. In the 2020/21 financial year, MRA collected MK1.108 trillion against a target of MK1.079 trillion
