Police in Kasungu district has advised road users in the district to adhere to all road traffic rules and regulations to avoid occurrences of preventable road accidents.
This follows a road accident that occurred on Saturday at Engineering Battalion junction along Kasungu-Lilongwe M1 road at around 15:30 hours which claimed life of one person while another escaped with minor injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Samson Lembo aged 34.
In an interview with Nthanda Times, Kasungu Police Spokesperson Sub Inspector Joseph Kachikho said Lembo was driving towards Lilongwe and tried to overtake two vehicles and ended up colliding head on with another vehicle that was coming from the opposite direction.
“Samson Lembo (now deceased) was driving a motor vehicle registration BY 8138 Daihatsu Mira from the direction of Kasungu heading towards Lilongwe.
“Upon arrival at Engineering Battalion junction he started overtaking two motor vehicles and in the process, he collided head on with motor vehicle registration number SA 8844 Toyota Vanguard which was coming from the opposite direction and was being driven by Gift Kamphinda,” said Kachikho.
Kachikho further said Lembo died on the spot while Kamphinda sustained bruises on his right hand.
“Lembo died on the spot due to severe head injury and multiple fractures while Kampinda sustained bruises on the right hand,” said Kachikho.
Lembo hailed from Makwangwala village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala, in Ntcheu District.
