SAD! Recent MUST graduate dies in fatal road accident

A fatal road accident at Bawi in Ntcheu district has claimed life female student who graduated with a distinction at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) on 18th May 2021.

The student, Aisha Senga aged 26 was onboard of a Toyota Atenza Saloon which was heading towards Ntcheu on Wednesday 19th May 2021.

Confirming the development to Nthanda Times, Ntcheu Police Spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said Aisha was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital as she had sustained severe head injuries in the accident.

According to Chigalu, the vehicle Aisha was travelling in overturned at Bawi area.  

“Aisha Senga, 26, has died in the afternoon of Wednesday May 19, 2021 after the vehicle she was travelling in overturned at Bawi area, along Balaka-Ntcheu M1 road at around 1330 hours. Upon arrival at the said place, he failed to negotiate a bend. As a result, he swerved to the extreme nearside dirty verge where it overturned. Following the impact, a female passenger, Aisha Senga, sustained severe head injuries. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital,” said Chigalu.

Aisha, a daughter of veteran MBC broadcaster Mervis Senga and the other two passengers were coming from the graduation where she received k300,000 from President Chakwera for her remarkable performance.

Chigalu further said another passenger sustained serious injuries and is admitted to the hospital while two people, a passenger and the driver, escaped with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the police in the district are saddened by the death of such a young citizen through this accident.

Police continue to urge motorists to observe road regulations at all times to avoid such accidents that are robbing the nation productive citizens.

The driver of the vehicle, Tarsizio Nkhoma, hails from Mwachande village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre.

While the deceased, Senga, hailed from Chiradzulu district.
