Health authorities in Blantyre say cases of scabies have doubled in the city.
According to Blantyre District Health Officer Dr. Gift Kawalazira, the number of people suffering from scabies has risen to 600 from 300 between July and November this year.
Kawalazira said more people continue to contract scabies due to poor hygiene conditions.
“More people in the district are contracting the disease due to lack of taking care of their bodies. We are monitoring the situation in all affected areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kawalazira urged people in the district to seek medical attention at any nearest health facility when they experience any signs and symptoms of the disease.
The most common symptoms of scabies include intense itching and pimple-like skin rash.
