Security tight in Zomba as Police net 6 for robbery
Police in Zomba have arrested six people on allegations that they are robbers who target lodges and rest houses in the city.
Through a press statement, Eastern Region Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Joseph Sauka has however laughed off social media reports of security lapse in the city.
“The Malawi Police Service (MPS) wishes to inform Malawians in general and Zomba residents in particular not to live in fear as there is no security lapse in the City of Zomba as it is being circulated on social media,” said Sauka.
According to Sauka, the six have been arrested following reports that the suspects broke into lodges and rest houses two months ago.
“In fact, three cases of robbery with violence targeting lodges and rest houses were reported in the last two months. However, six suspects have since been arrested. The suspects arrested in connection to attacks on lodges are; John Adams, Joseph Jekapu, Davie Kazembe, Joe 'Budah' Dzuwa, Henderson Chikalimba and Hassan Kalima,” said Sauka.
Sauka said Police is deep with intelligence collection to proactively deal with any criminality within the City of Zomba as uniformed police officers in the City continue to patrol all hot spots to increase visibility and reduce the fear of crime among residents.
