Sisters arrested in Zomba for possessing two guns

Two sisters Jessica Makumba, 21, and Jane Makumba, 29, have been arrested at Chinamwali in Zomba for allegedly being found in possession of two firearms. Patricia Sipiliano spokesperson for Zomba Police Station, says the arrests follow a tip yesterday that the two were keeping guns. "Crime Investigation Department officers went in to investigate and arrested the two sisters before recovering the two shotguns from them which were hidden in the ground," said Sipiliano. The two will appear in court soon.

But people familiar with firearms say that these are old model snipper rifles associated with ambush confrontation. They say one of the rifles is a Benelli M4 tactical and the other a Winchester SXP defender pump. Another thinks they are greener 303. The sisters hail from the area of Traditional Authority Kuntumanje in Makumba village in rural Zomba.
