SRWB ready to occupy new offices in Zomba

Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) will from March 1, 2022 move into its new house formerly known as MTL building in Zomba.

This is after the Board completed paying Malawi Postal Corporation (MPC) the sum of K1.6 billion for the building.

In an interview, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for SRWB, Rita Makwangwala said as it stands, the building was now in the hands of the board.

She said that “I can confidently say that the building is now ours and we will be moving in this coming month. We have since advised those who were renting in it to move out.”

The PRO said the Board would leave some of its staff members in its current structure since the new building cannot accommodate all of them.

"SRWB is a big institution, despite buying the MTL building, we still have a shortage of office space, as such, the offices we are currently in will still be used by some of our officers," she explained.

Some residents in the district have described the moving in of the Board to the new offices as a relief as it would shorten the distances they used to walk.

“The offices were far from town at least this one is more convenient,” Chinamwali Township resident, Peter Chiuse said.

SRWB bought the building from Malawi Post Corporation in 2021 after MPC advertised it.
