Who could Oleksandr Usyk fight next after defeating Anthony Joshua?
Usyk followed up his victory over Joshua in London last year with another faultless performance to win the fight on a split decision.
Joshua put in an improved performance from the one he produced at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium but it still wasn’t enough to beat the Ukrainian, who extends his flawless record.
Here is everything you need to know about who Usyk could face in his next fight.
Who could Oleksandr Usyk fight next?
Usyk will likely now turn his attention to enticing Tyson Fury out of retirement in an attempt to become the heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis.
Fury has recently announced his retirement from boxing but is tempted at the prospect of jumping back into the ring for a clash with Usyk.
Speaking after Usyk defeated Joshua, Fury said on a video posted on Twitter: ‘After watching that, both of them were s***e.
‘It was one of the worst heavyweight title fights I’ve ever seen. It was b******t. It was f*****g s***e. I would annihilate both on the same night.
‘Get your chequebook out, because The Gypsy King is here to stay forever.’
Some have also speculated that Daniel Dubois, as the WBA champion’s mandatory challenger, will be next in line to have a crack at Usyk if a deal with Fury cannot be done.
The Briton beat unbeaten Trevor Bryan with a fourth-round knockout earlier this year in Miami.
When could Oleksandr Usyk’s next fight be?
The date for Usyk’s next fight will not be known until an opponent is selected to take on the heavyweight champion.
However, if Uysk decides to step back into the ring, his next match is likely to be well into 2023.
In the meantime, Usyk has announced that he will return to Ukraine to help with his country’s war efforts.
Usyk joined the Ukrainian military earlier this year when Russia launched an invasion of his motherland back in February.
Usyk was only allowed to leave the country to prepare for the Joshua fight after being given special permission by Ukraine’s sports minister.
What has Oleksandr Usyk said about his next fight?
Speaking about a potential undisputed bout with Fury, Usyk told Sky Sports: ‘I’m sure that Tyson Fury is not retired yet. I’m convinced that he wants to fight me.
‘I want to fight him and if I’m not fighting Tyson Fury, I’m not fighting at all.’
